ALCARRÀS (2022)

December 08, 2024 in Feature, Narrative, Realism

In a small Catalonian village, a family of peach farmers' lives are upended when their landowner announces plans to install solar panels and cut down their trees, forcing them to confront deep seated tensions within the family as they struggle to stay united even as they are torn from their land.

things to consider:

  • realism

  • ensemble - dinner scene

    • apparently the grandmother couldn’t remember the words so every take was in fact different and this leads to an even more naturalistic feel

  • non-actors

  • child’s perspective of the parent

  • even as a viewer you don’t fully grasp the gravity of the situation because in reality you can’t

  • the grandfather losing memory, he trusted, your word meant everything and he believed this but that is actually what is lost, not just the land

  • the subtleties

  • the rabbits / eating the trees / a pest just like the solar panel people
